This will be a day of printmaking to share and expand our monotype skills. You can experiment

Do it Yourself Screen Printing @ Essex Art Center

We will learn how to cut contact paper stencil and print on paper. Instruction will include design
choices, registration, how to make a simple screen at home. We will use water-based inks and
card stock. You may want to come with an image for a holiday card. Please bring artwork ideas to

Play with Printmaking
4 week workshop @ Millvale Folk Art Studio with Linda Germain
Wednedatys - Oct 5th - 26th 6:30- 8:30
$25/class most materials will be provided

This class will be structured to meet each student where she/he is and to build on existing interests and
skills. Beginners and beyond are most welcome. We will be exploring and combining a wide variety of
printmaking techniques. The focus will be on experimentation.
This is the schedule:
Week 1 (2 hours)
Gelatin Printmaking, hand stamping with found objects, building in a textured surface and printing on
tissue paper.
Week 2 (2 hours)
Printing with stencils - we will explore using stencil alone and on the gelatin plate. We will use pre made
stencils, my stash of stencils and cut your own from paper. I stencil can often give a wonderfully textured
surface a focus.
Week 3 (2 hours)
Relief printing - foam plates, line drawings and cut out shapes. Create 4 plates and layer to create a 2 x
2 print, or combine with prior prints.
Week 4 (2 hours)
Crop, cards, collage and complete - at this point you will have created a large portfolio of prints and we
will begin to bring a few of them to completion. We will explore cropping and matting, reshaping into artist
trading cards and collaging on a box or paper surface.
